Android Device Manager lets you manage all of your Android devices and even locate those devices that have been misplaced or stolen.

Android Device Manager is a tool from Google that’s baked in on many devices. If it’s not pre-installed or you’ve performed a fresh install, you can install it as standalone program. The purpose of this app is to provide users the option to track, lock and wipe their phones remotely.

This app gives you access to any and all devices that you’ve associated with your Google account. This means that if you have an Android phone and tablet and have misplaced your phone, you can find and access it from your tablet. Cool, but what about users who have just one Android device? Well, you have access to all of the features Android Device Manager provides right from Google.com as well!

If your phone is nearby, you can force it to ring so that you can zero in on it. If you don’t remember where you left it, you can look at a map and see that you left it at school or the doctor’s office. You can even lock the device remotely and change the lock screen pin. If you’re really worried about your sensitive information being compromised, you can even set the device to erase all data, and after you recover the phone, restoring the device by resyncing with the cloud makes everything a breeze.

Android Device Manager offers a number of great features, but the top reason most will use it is the ability to locate a phone or other device that’s been misplaced or stolen. The potential problem here is that this feature requires GPS to be on, and many users have GPS disabled due to battery usage, privacy and other concerns. Since there’s no remote GPS enabler, you’ll have to keep GPS on.
